      Veterans Day Commemoration

Atlanta History Center’s annual Veterans Day program honors the sacrifice of the women and men who served in the United States armed forces. Join us at Veterans Park for a ceremony to honor all who served, featuring a keynote address by Rear Admiral Wendi B. Carpenter, United States Navy (Retired). A pioneer of women in naval aviation, Rear Admiral Carpenter had a distinguished 34-year military career and received the Navy Distinguished Service Medal and the Defense Superior Service Medal. The Atlanta Region Naval Reserve Officer Training Command will present the colors, and opera baritone Bill Killmeier will perform the National Anthem. Col. Bobby Christine, State Judge Advocate for the Georgia National Guard and U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance

Arrive early to enjoy patriotic selections by the full 116th Army Band, the oldest Military National Guard or Reserve Band in the country.

Inside the Atlanta History Museum’s Allen Atrium after the ceremony, Atlanta History Center’s Veterans History Project will offer information. Launched in 1999, Veterans History Project has conducted more than 700 veteran interviews.

This is a free event. Active and retired military, veterans and up to five members of their families receive free admission to the entire Atlanta History Center campus following the ceremony.
