MARTA Station & Neighborhood Tour: FIVE POINTS

Join us for our inaugural MARTA Station & Neighborhood Tour. Registration for these tours is now available through Facebook & Eventbrite ABOUT THE SERIES Exclusive series of urban walking tours designed and led by ExploreATL Tours We have combined art + architecture + history + food + exerciseto create a fun and interesting experience for you and your friends We offer these as public toursas well as private tours (e.g., corporate, convention, client appreciation, new resident orientation, etc.) Each tour will focus on one MARTA transit station and the surrounding neighborhood(s)  Tours are about two hours in length. There is typically an optional get-together (for lunch) after the tour ABOUT THIS TOUR The Five Points station, located in the heart of Atlanta, is the central connecting point of the MARTA transit system. Here the Red/Gold line crosses the Blue/Green line. The station is located about a block from where the City of Atlanta was founded, as the "terminus"of the Western & Atlantic Railroad.* Dues to its strategic location (and because this is the inaugural tour of this series) this first tour will include a discussion about Atlanta's history. Tour highlights include the Five Points MARTA station, Underground Atlanta, South Downtown, Fairlie-Poplar District and Woodruff Park. * Atlanta's Zero Mile Post was moved to the Atlanta History Center in 2018 and can be seen (for the first time in many years) as part of the excellent Locomotion: Railroads and The Making Of Atlanta exhibit. REGISTRATION & LOGISTICS All guests must pre-register online via Facebook or Eventbrite You can save money by becoming a member of Urban Explorers of Atlanta or buying an ExploreATL Annual Tour Pass Registration fees are non-refundablebut, in most cases, you can apply it to a future tour if you cancel at least 48 hours in advance. Guests are encouraged to take MARTA to/from each tour. This will save you time and money. It will also enable you to become more familiar with the MARTA transit system. Specific meeting locations (at the MARTA stations) will be sent to those who register the day before the tour. This could be inside or outside of the station's entry/exit gates. Guests are asked to arrive at the starting location 15 minutes before the start time of the tour. Tour participants must be in excellentphysical condition. These walking tours will cover anywhere from 2-5 miles. Many will take place in bustling urban locations. We will be crossing busy streets, climbing stairs, looking up at buildings, dodging scooters other fast-moving objects! Please note that the tour leader reserves the rightto ask anyone to leave a tour if he/she feels that is in the tour guest's best (health) interest to do so. Please wear comfortable and sturdy walking shoes; bring water, sun screen, hat, etc. Tour participants must be at least 12 years of age (no exceptions).
