      Java Speaks Open Mic

      Java Speaks Open Mic havs been live for 18 years, this mic was started in 2001 by Kodac Harrison. In November of 2017, Kodac turned the mic over to Theresa Davis, published author and well known performance poet. Despite losing the Java Monkey Coffee House in a fire last winter, our new venue at Ammazzaa Decatur is excited to be our new home. Java Speaks has landed on the Best Of Atlanta for Creative Loafing and Georgia Voice many times. Java Speaks is open to all and maintains a code of conduct regarding language. We do not censor but this community expects no hate speech, homophobia, sexism, racism or hate speech is allowed on this mic. So come on through listen to poetry and music, have a bottle of beer, a glass of wine, or a pizza pie! Java Speaks Every Sunday Night! Every Second Sunday Join us for our monthly Slam Series (September-April). The top two scores will qualify for finals and a chance to represent Atlanta/Decatur as a member of the Java Slam Team. The list opens at 7:30 first 12 to sign up will slam.  Before the slam there will be a workshop lead by Daryl Funn. About the workshop Those Who Can Do. Those who can’t TEACH. Writing & Performance Workshop Come an opportunity to have your performance critiqued by Java Slam Master Mistafunn. 5pm-7pm.  Don’t miss the opportunity to improve your voice, stage presence, body positioning. Workshop includes: • Building a feature set • The Open Mic Poem vs The Slam Poem • Budgeting for Touring • Whatever you want/need to work on  #thosewhocanteach The Slam is hosted by Theresa Davis No hate speech, homophobia, sexism, racism or general fuckery.
