A Happy Holiday With The Atlanta Wind Symphony Free Concert Dec. 14

Ring in the holidays in festive style with the Atlanta Wind Symphony on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 7:30 p.m. at Centennial High School Auditorium in Roswell. Enjoy favorites such as Tchaikovsky's Waltz of the Flowers from “The Nutcracker Suite” and Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, plus unique settings of traditional carols and popular holiday music, including Deck the Halls - A Merry Fugue, Symphonic Prelude on “Adeste Fidelis,” and a big-band style piece, In the Christmas Mood. The concert will also feature contemporary composer Cindy McTee's Notezart, an exciting work that fuses together intriguing composition techniques and a Renaissance melody.

The 2019-2020 season marks the Atlanta Wind Symphony's 40th anniversary as an all-volunteer community wind ensemble dedicated to delivering inspiring performances of quality wind band literature. Comprised of more than 60 adult musicians ranging in experience from music educators to hobbyists, the group has performed at Carnegie Hall and has received the John Philip Sousa Foundation's Sudler Silver Scroll, North America's most prestigious award for community concert bands. Atlanta Wind Symphony Music Director David Kehler serves as Director of Bands and Professor of Music at Kennesaw State University where he oversees all aspects of the University’s expanding band program; teaches courses in instrumental conducting, symphonic repertoire, and 20th century music; and serves as Music Director and Conductor of the KSU Wind Ensemble. The concert will also feature Associate Conductor Tyler Ehrlich. Ehrlich is in his third year as the Associate Director of Bands at Centennial High School.

The December 14 holiday concert is free; tax-deductible donations are accepted at the concert, via mail, or online. This concert is sponsored by Fulton County Arts & Culture. To help spread the joy of the season, the band will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for the Toys for Tots program. For more information visit www.AtlantaWindSymphony.org.
