      Cyclorama: Art and Entertainment

Historical memory refers to the way groups of people create and identify with specific narratives surrounding historical periods or events, sometimes based on present circumstances. A major example of historical memory at work is The Battle of Atlanta cyclorama painting. We are using this restored work of art and entertainment, and the history of the painting itself, as a tool to talk about the ‘big picture.’ How can perceptions, memory and interpretations be shaped, or mis-shaped, by a combination of art and entertainment, myth and memory, and cultural context during different eras?

Featured speakers include Matthew Bernstein, department chair and professor of Film & Media studies at Emory University, and Miriam Petty, associate professor in the Department of Radio/Television/Film and African America Studies at Northwestern University.

Tickets are $10 general public, $5 for members, and free to AHC Insiders unless otherwise noted.
