VOLUNTEER AT THE ATLANTA FOOD BANK!!

Want to give to the community, but not sure how? Join other Sky's The Limit members on Thursday, October 15th from 6-8:30pm. About the Food Bank Founded in 1979, the Atlanta Community Food Bank currently distributes almost 2 million pounds of food and other donated grocery items each month to more than 800 nonprofit partner agencies in 38 counties in Metro Atlanta and North Georgia. Distributing these donations to low-income Georgians, our partner agencies provide dynamic links between the local community, the Food Bank and our supporters. The Food Bank began nearly 30 years ago as an emergency food provider in the basement of the St. Luke's Episcopal Church in downtown Atlanta. Today the organization has become a fixture in the community with 129,600 square feet of warehouse space, distributing more than 20 million pounds of food each year. Who we serve The Food Bank supports a wide range of people in need, from children to the working poor. Food pantries, community kitchens, childcare centers, night shelters and senior centers are among the agencies that receive product from the Food Bank and provide food and other critical resources for low-income Georgians who suffer from hunger and food insecurity. The Food Bank also operates several community projects to aid our agencies in community building, technical assistance and advocacy efforts. We rely on over 15,000 volunteers every year to fulfill our mission. Join us in being a part of feeding the hungry in Atlanta. We will sort, pack and weigh donated goods for distribution throughout the metro Atlanta area. Requested Attire: Wear closed-toed shoes. No sandals, flip-flops, or high-heeled shoes are allowed. # Arrival Time: 6:00p.m. Late volunteers may be asked to return at a later date. The parking lot at ACFB is locked after the end of each evening and Saturday afternoon volunteer shift. If volunteering during these times, ACFB volunteers are advised not to leave their cars in our lot after their shift has concluded. PLEASE.....IF POSSIBLE. The Food bank is HURTING for donations these days, in ight of the distressed economy and tremendous unemployment. If you can possibly bring a donation of your own that day, the Food Bank can certainly use it and appreciates it!! This will be our last shift of 2009, let's go out with a BANG!!! Hey!!! Join us after our shift for a bite to eat and/or a beverage!! We will be going to either our staple of Taqueria Del Sol, OR Flip Burger Boutique OR Six Feet Under. We will take a vote and cruise on over after our shift. We always have fun at the 'after-party' and hope you will join us!!
